Environmental Strategy, Underpinned by Data-Driven Decisions
At the heart of a Corporate Environmental Strategy lie the answers to a series of questions: Where does our business have the greatest impact on the environment? How can we reduce this impact, while simultaneously taking actions that benefit the business? And how can we tackle these issues strategically and proactively, rather than reacting to the latest cause du jour?
Yale has not only provided me with a first rate education, but has afforded me opportunities to work directly on just these kinds of actionable strategies and projects for real world clients, including:
Developed a complete environmental strategy for Yale University Press, designed also to improve the financial position of the organization.
Conducted a Life Cycle Analysis for PurePlay Clothing on a sweatshirt made out of regenerated cotton fabric, which led the PurePlay to change its manufacturing process to one which is financially and environmentally superior. See How…
Johnson & Johnson (Intern, Summer 2008)
Co-led the design of an environmental education program on the subject of “sustainability,” to inspire employees at all levels of this 120,000-strong organization. Find Out More…
Provided recommendations towards process improvements to the company’s LEED certification process, and conceived a marketing strategy to assist the company’s move into green construction. See the Recommendations…
Life Cycle Analysis grounds several of these environmental strategies. LCA provides a way for companies to cut through both greenwash and media frenzy, and make quantifiable, defensible decisions. It becomes much easier to formulate a way to generate business benefits from sustainable actions when a company knows where its biggest impacts lie.
